Green roofs
I considered a Green Roof after listening to a radio program on KUOW. After a couple calls to the architect and some pricing, it turned out to be about a $40,000 additional cost. The green roof advocates will tell you it isn't any more expensive than a traditional roof, but that is a sloped tile roof that costs $15 per foot. Our flat roof is $6-$8 per foot, so the cost is double. So I had the architect put in the extra bracing in the roof structure so we can put on the green roof later if we want to and come into lots of extra cash.
